My story

I was diagnosed with stage 3B Lobular Carcinoma with lymph node involvement on April 1, 2008. A swollen lymph node under my arm was my only symptom. Nothing was shown on my mamogram the day I was diagnosed. An ultrasound showed a 8cm long mass. I endured grueling rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries. By the love of my family and friends and my faith in God, I made it through with a new appreciation of life!

At my radiation appointment yesterday, an older lady whom I chat with daily didn't have her cap on. She'd been wearing that cap since she first lost her hair several months ago. When I mentioned to her that her hair was coming in nicely she told me that she felt brave enough now to take the cap off and it felt so good. She said she admired my hair and was ready to 'take the plunge'. I am proud of her, she's a sweet woman who battled lung cancer 5 years ago and now breast cancer. Interestingly enough later that day, I was in the market when a woman said to me, "Your haircut looks darling." When I mentioned that it was nice to finally have hair again, she was surprised and just thought it was a short cut by choice! That interaction made me feel so normal and as I thanked her for the compliment I realized that hair is really one of those things people always take notice of. The effects of radiation have not been too bad. I am slightly more tired in the afternoons, but it is not like the chemo tiredness. Rest makes me feel better this time. The most irritating thing is the rash on my chest. It is like a bad sunburn, hurts and itches. My prayers these days are fulled with thankfulness that I am on the road to recovery.
